The Postal Service to Release Second Album

March 30th, 2007 by Andrew Aleon Leon

dcfc.jpgDeath Cab For Cutie is ok,

I mean, some people love them, but they’re nothing special…

In my opinion, The best part of Death Cab for Cutie is lead singer Ben Gibbard. I've spent quite a bit of time listening to all of their cd'd and tapes, and you know what… I had a Epiphany.
Ben is not being used correctly. In Death cab, he sounds like every other emo band. I mean SURE, there are hits, but they borrow heavily from computer hooks and samples rather than the live band. Something is missing…
Ben needs a Ying to his Yang.
A Dj Jazzy Jeff to his fresh Prince
A Wayne to his Garth
A Big Boi to his Andre 3000

…but I digress.

Long story short, that person is Jimmy Tamborello, and together they are “The Postal Service”

Jimmy is famous for his electronica work and several bands including dntel and headset. Simply put, the man is a genius. Their first album, Give up, is on my top 10 favorite albums of all time. Its upbeat and calm, uplifting but painful. Ben hibbards voice is expertly woven between power-pop beats and quick samples.

But then, to my utter chagrin, it ended. They released one album and went their separate ways. Jimmy back to his elctonica and Ben to DCFC. I was devastated. This “breakup” lead me to question my very existence. Is there a god? What is the meaning of life? Is Death Cab the antichrist?

But the… the other day, I was crusin the web, when I stumbled upon the most wonderful bit of news I had heard in a long time. They were back.

A follow-up to The Postal Service's successful debut album is in the works, and one-half of the duo tells MTV News they hope to have the new record out by year's end. Producer/musician Jimmy Tamborello says that they have about six new songs done but the album "isn't nearly even 50 percent done."

If you don’t own “Give up,” I HIGHLY suggest you go out and buy it ASAP.

Long live The Postal Service!!!

I can’t wait. I love their first cd. Sometimes it can be depressing if you listen to it in the wrong mindset though like the song Nothing Better.

Death Cab For Cutie is my second favorite band. My first is The Postal Service, and the fact that they are developing a second album was the best news since Plans and Narrow Stairs put together. Where can I find more information on its release date or any information for that matter?
